If this is a blessing, it is certainly very well disguised.
Men stumble over the truth from time to time but most pick themselves
up and hurry off as if nothing happened.
The empires of the future are the empires of the mind.
Continuous effort--not strength or intelligence--is the key to unlocking
our potential.
It's not enough that we do our best; sometimes we have to do what's
required.
We shall draw from the heart of suffering itself the means of inspiration
and survival.
I
have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat.
We
make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.
We
shall show mercy, but we shall not ask for it.
We
shall neither fail nor falter; we shall not weaken or tire...Give
us the tools and we will finish the job.
Never
give in, never give in, never, never, never, never--in nothing,
great or small, large or petty--never give in except to convictions
of honor and good sense.
For
myself, I am an optimist--it does not seem to be much use being
anything else.
It
is always wise to look ahead, but difficult to look farther than
you can see.
The
maxim "Nothing but perfection" may be spelled "Paralysis."
An
optimist sees an opportunity in every calamity; a pessimist sees
a calamity in every opportunity.
Success
is going from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.
One
ought never to turn one's back on a threatened danger and try to
run away from it. If you do that, you will double the danger. But
if you meet it promptly and without flinching, you will reduce the
danger by half. Never run away from anything. Never!
Courage
is the first of the human qualities because it is the quality which
guarantees all the others. Without
courage, all other virtues lose their meaning.
A
man is about as big as the things that make him angry.
Courage
is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it
takes to sit down and listen.
It
is no use saying "we are doing our best." You have got
to succeed in doing what is necessary.
What
is the use of living if it be not to strive for noble causes and
to make this muddled world a better place for those who will live
in it after we are gone.
